On Saturday May 7th, the attendees of J and Beyond 2011 all gathered in the auditorium of Rolduc Conference Centre for the awards ceremony of the annual J.O.S.C.A.R.S – the Joomla Open Source Creative Artistic Recognition Awards.
This year we have had a record number of nominations and the international panel has had a very hard task in creating a shortlist. Voting took place during the conference by all the attendees with the winners announce in a star studded celebrity awards ceremony led Open Source Knights Sir Brian Teeman and Victor Drover.
Our Nooku community was awarded with not one but four awards in 3 different categories !
Nicholas K. Dionysopoulos (profile) and Stian Didriksen (profile) won this years Code Junkie awards for their absolutely awesome development work. Stian is the Lead Developer of Ninjaboard and he is the brains behind Nooku Desktop. Nicholas is working in our incubator on an update and package manager and recently released Akeeba Subscriptions, a subscription component build on Nooku Framework.
Matt Thomas (profile) was awarded in the template framework category for his work on the Contruct Template Framework. Construct is one of the first template framework to also support Nooku Server. At Nooku, Matt is currently working on the development and design of a new frontend template for Nooku Server and a template override package for Joomla 1.5 and 1.6.
Person of the Year
Johan Janssens (profile) was awarded as the Joomla Person of the Year. Johan is founder of Nooku and co-founder of Joomla. He was awarded for his “outstanding personal achievement” his contributions to Joomla 1.5 and the innovation in Nooku.
