Announcing the first Nooku Party
Joomla and the Knight of Open Source are putting up camp in Kerkrade, Netherlands on the 6-8 May for the second edition of J! And Beyond.
J! And Beyond is an community driven International Joomla Conference, which grew out of the vibrant community site All Together As A Whole. We’re proud that Nooku is once again sponsoring. This is the Joomla community event of the year, you don’t want to miss it!
Throwing a party
On of the things that made the first edition so special was the great atmosphere and camaraderie by all attendees. With a very international crowed coming to J and Beyond 2011 we thought it to be great to throw a little pre-event party on Thursday 5 May so that everyone could get the know each other in person before diving in on the 6th.
We could just all meetup in the bar or go to a restaurant. We wouldn’t be Nooku if we didn’t try to organise something, well a little bit more special. So … we are going skiing!
The Joomladays NL are coming!
It’s almost time for the Joomla highlight of the year, the Dutch Joomladays! This year they are taking place on the 2th and 3th of April at Kaapdoorn, near Utrecht.
The Joomladay in the Netherlands is the oldest and one of the most popular Joomla events in Europe: two days, hundreds of attendees, and lots of parallel sessions. Traditionally it has a great mix of newbies, organizations, and community members, which is the perfect recipe for inspiring discoveries.
We’re proud to announce that Nooku is once again sponsoring the Dutch Joomladays. Buckle up for a great ride because this year as we are not doing one but three presentations. So what are we talking about?
Jamming in Stockholm with Nooku
This is a guest post from Martin Blodau, developer at Pixpro, organiser of the first Joomlanight, and a Nooku community member.
The first Nooku Jam in Stockholm took place on the 5th of February 2011, in the conference area of the Swedish Media Publisher’s Association (TU), the day after the first Joomla Night.
We started the day with an overview about Nooku – its history, how it works, design patterns, examples and so much more. Pizza followed soon after! The pizza feast created a lot of lively discussions about the new possibilities of development with Nooku.
Jamming in Lugano with Nooku
On Wednesday, 19 January 2011, Joomla integrators and PHP developers gathered at the University of Lugano, CH for the first Swiss Nooku Jam. The Jam took place during the annual Beyounic Camp, a strategic workshop hosted by our friends from Beyounic.
Beyounic is the team behind Ohanah, a social event management platform built on Nooku Framework. They have become great friends in the past year and we (Tom and myself) were very excited to travel to Lugano to see their new office and organize a Nooku Jam together.
Geeks, students and teachers
Despite the exam period, we got a room full of interested informatics students, teachers and many other great people coming also from abroad. (@andreatorre came over all the way from Rome, Italy @luscarpa joined us from Venice, Italy)
With so many really talented people in the room, we were able to touch some very technical topics. Design patterns, use of web 3.0/semantic technologies, security, etc. Feedback during and after the event was great. The Jam was well appreciated by the faculty program manager and the participants.
First Nooku Developer Group
The afternoon after the event, a group of students got really interested in learning more about the Nooku Framework. For us this means the first seed for a swiss Nooku developer group has been successfully planted!

Nooku Jam Lugano
Together with our friends from Beyounic we are organising the first Nooku Jam of 2011 in beautiful city of Lugano, Switzerland on the 19th of January 2011. The University of Lugano has kindly offered to host the jam on their campus.
Nooku Framework is considered by many as one of the most interesting developments in the Joomlasphere of the last two years. Not only because of the spectacular code reduction (up to 80%), but also for the many features that were previously unavailable to Joomla and PHP developers:
- Near-zero-code HMVC
- REST architecture
- Object Relational Mapping
- Out of the box security features
- Extensibility through CoC, DI, Mixins …
- Extreme re-usability
If you are a Joomla or PHP developer looking to learn how to build better Joomla extensions faster you don’t want to miss this. Thanks to our sponsors the event is completely free. Don’t wait and register now!
Jamming in Rotterdam with Nooku
On Saturday, 11 December 2010 Joomla integrators and PHP developers gathered in Rotterdam, NL for the first Dutch Nooku Jam.
The jam, perfectly organized by Nooku community member Herman Peeren, was completely focused on Nooku Framework. Nooku is hot! This was once again demonstrated by the speed at which registrations for the event came in! For some people it was their first encounter with Nooku Framework, for others it was a great way to finally meet fellow Nooku community members face to face.
In the morning lead architect Johan Janssens gave a general introduction of the Nooku Framework. Johan explained how the framework was born, how development is done and how the community is getting involved. He also explained the vision for the future and not to forget what benefits Nooku brings to Joomla extension development.
Nooku Jam Stockholm
Nooku joined forces with the The Swedish Joomla! User Association to bring the first Nooku Jam to Stockholm on the 5th of February 2011. The Swedish Media Association has kindly offered their venue to host the jam. With two main rooms and multiple smaller break out rooms the venue really breaths creativity and can easily host 50 participants. Ideal for a Nooku Jam!
