A Nooku November

It happened in September, and it is going to happen again next month – the Nooku flag is up in two continents in November! Nooku finds its way back to Asia and is going back to its roots in Belgium! Presenting the second Nooku Jam Manila and the first Nooku Jam Leuven.

Manila – Philippines

Following a very successful Nooku Jam Manila in 2010, Johan is back to give developers  another whirlwind experience with the Nooku Framework. Israel and Myra, Timble’s Manila team, will also be around to help facilitate the event.

Nooku Jam Manila will be held on Friday, November 4, 2011 at the Exist TechBar in Ortigas, Metro Manila. If you are a passionate Joomla/PHP developer, join us for a day of technology, hacking and fun. And the hard work will pay off at the after party at the end of the day to start the celebrations for a great Nooku year.

The techbar can only hosts 20 developers. We expect to sell out quick so make sure to register early!

Leuven – Belgium

With the Nooku headquarters just a few miles away, the Nooku Jam almost comes home on the 26-27th of November in Leuven, Belgium. Our friends from FlandersDC will host the Jam in their uber awesome Creativity Lab which will be opened for us specially during the weekend.

Except not one day, but a full weekend of intense presentations, discussions, brainstorms, workshops, hackathons, … around specific areas of the Nooku project. And offcourse in good Nooku tradition there will be a Nooku Party!

This Jam is a great opportunity for Nookuers to meet in person, to put a face on a lot of quirky mailing list and IM nicknames, and to spend some quality time together!

The Nooku Jam is organised together with community partners (Timble, MoyoWeb, Pincoding, Beyounic, FlandersDC). We are still looking for companies to help sponsor the event. Interested? Get in touch.

If you are a Nooku, Joomla or PHP developer this is a Jam not to miss ! The Creativity Lab of FlandersDC can host a maximum of 50 people. Don’t wait to register!

The State of Nooku 2011

Past weekend, the Nooku Team was at the Dutch Joomladays, as both sponsors and speakers. The event sold completely out. Two days with 200 attendees each, that’s a lot of interesting people to meet. Very positive vibe and and superb organisation, one of the best Joomladays I ever attended. A big congrats to everyone who helped to make this happen.

We have a tradition of showing something new each year at the Dutch Joomladays, so Tom and myself were very proud to officially announce our Nooku Platform and present our second State of Nooku.

Jack Bremer interviews Mathias Verraes

During our three days at J! And Beyond, the International Joomla Conference, I was interviewed about Nooku Framework. Jack Bremer did an excellent job (it’s hard to believe he’s not a professional interviewer!)

We talked about the growing Nooku Community and the origins of Nooku Content and Nooku Framework. In the middle it gets a bit technical, but hold on, after that there’s some fun stuff about the Joomlasphere’s obsession with Swahili names.

The interview was taped by Zohar Babin. He was at J! And Beyond in his role as Director of Developer Relations and Community for Kaltura, the open source video platform, as they were sponsoring the event. Zohar decided to take the opportunity to learn more about Joomla, by interviewing a number of people in the community. I’m proud to have been one of them. Check out his technology blog for more interviews here and here.

Jack Bremer, the interviewer, runs 3B Digital in London, a full-service digital marketing agency who specialise in Joomla projects, SEO and social media.

The State of Nooku

Last week, the Nooku Team was at the Dutch Joomladays, as both sponsors and speakers. There was a great turnout, the positive vibe and everybody was genuinely excited about the amazing innovations the Joomlasphere has come up with in the past year.

We have a tradition of showing something new each year at the Dutch Joomladays, so Johan and myself were very proud to officially announce our Developer Portal and present our very first State of Nooku.

Nooku goes North

The first Nooku Demo Day last March was a fun gettogether. We got one complaint however: apparently all Joomla events in The Netherlands are in the South of the country. Jamii, one of our Nooku Partners, decided it was time for a change. They’re inviting colleagues, customers, and friends (and anybody who’s interested) for a second Dutch Nooku Demo Day on the 16th of October, all the way up north in Slagharen.

We love it when our partners organize events, so of course we happily accepted the invitation to come and show the latest and greatest developments in Nooku Content (the multilingual extension for Joomla), and Nooku Framework (the rapid application development platform for Joomla).

Nooku hits the road

Last week we were invited by Eduvision to their annual Joomla! Conference to talk about setting up a multi-lingual website with Nooku Content and Joomla! 1.5.

During our presentation we touched on the how’s and why’s of multi-lingual websites and demo’ed Nooku Content 0.5.

The overall feedback from the crowd was very positive. People were excited about the many advantages Nooku Content offers over existing multi-lingual solutions in areas like usability, simplicity, performance etc …

Also, we were pleasantly surprised to hear how much people appreciated our effort to not only create a next generation multi-language solution for Joomla!, but also to demonstrate that a funded business model can be a great way to create GPL’ed solutions in true spirit of the licence.
